Theory of Low-Energy Electron Diffraction
A method for calculating the intensities of diffracted waves in low energy electron diffraction by crystals is proposed. The elastic multiple scattering is fully taken into account. The cellular method of KOHN and ROSTOKER in the band theory of metals is applied to the integral equation of the scattering by two dimensional lattices, particularly by monatomic layers. The solution is expanded in ...
متن کاملEfficient kinematical simulation of reflection high-energy electron diffraction streak patterns for crystal surfaces
An efficient program with a user-friendly graphical interface has been developed for simulating reflection high-energy electron diffraction patterns obtained on crystal surfaces. The calculations are based on a kinematical approach which considers single electron scattering events at the surface. This time-efficient approach is in most cases sensitive enough for distinguishing different structu...
متن کاملUltrafast low-energy electron diffraction traces phase-ordering kinetics of charge density waves
We introduce ultrafast low-energy electron diffraction (ULEED) in backscattering for the study of structural dynamics at surfaces. Using a tip-based source of ultrashort electron pulses, we investigate the optically-driven transition between charge-density wave phases at the surface of 1T-TaS2. Employing spot-profile analysis enabled by the large transfer width of the instrument, we resolve the...

Electron scattering at single crystal Cu surfaces
Epitaxial copper layers, 6.6 nm to 1.2 μm thick, were grown on MgO(001) by ultra-high vacuum magnetron sputter deposition at 100 °C. The surface morphology, as determined by in-situ scanning tunneling microscopy, exhibits a regular mound structure. The mounds grow in width w and height h as a function of layer thickness t from h=3 nm and w=20 nm for t=20 nm to h=5 nm and w=200 nm for t=1.2 μm. ...
